I have long long hair, what's some cool ways to put it up?

My hair is super straight, which looks nice down but it's also very thick and I'm in Texas and it's summer and it's way too hot for this. Any good ideas for cool hair-do's that wont fall out all day that will be off my back? I already do a bun and braids but they pull back from my face and give my hair no volume, since I wear no make-up, It's not a really good look for me. I was considering cutting my bangs? My boyfriend thinks this is gross and doesn't want me to cut my hair at all. I wouldn't mind if I could find cool ways to put it up. Help Please!

I also have the same problem!! I'm into the retro pin up look so you may not like my idea's. I usually pull my hair up into some crazy twist but don't perfect it. Some times I also take like bandanna's and use them to hold my hair up and it tie a bow/not in the front and let like some of my hair show. I also just every once in a while curl it and throw it up because it doesn't make my hair as flat.
