I have kinky twists in my hair and I am thinking about getting a perm after I take them out, only thing is my hair is fully natural. I have kept it braided for the past 2 years, to let it grow, and it has, but I feel like it needs a break.Plus I want to wear my hair "out" for a while. So what is the recommended time to let your hair wait before you put a perm in it? My friends do it like 1-2 days after, and they seem like they have no problem, but I just wanted to know was it really safe/good to do it that way.

As long as your hair does not have breakage. wet your hair and do a strength test. take a strand and stretch it and seee if it bounces back. If it breaks emmediately than it is weak. If it bounces back then put a perm in it when ever you want.

As long as you don't relax it to frequently it will be fine. Braids give the impression of making hair grow only because you do not need to use chemicals on it in order to do so , therefore braids are most gentle in hair and do not lead to breakage, making it seem that hair grows faster in braids when in fact it doesn't grow faster, it just isn't breaking off at the ends. Perms are chemical which cause your hair to dry out and get brittle which will then cause the hair to break off. Waiting an appropriate time BETWEEN touch-ups, and only perming THE NEW GROWTH should be your biggest concern as far as taking care of your hair.

If they were tight, I would wait a week (full 7 days). If not so tight I would go about 3-5 days with no stress on your hair like tight ponytails, etc.

You should make sure your hair is not dry at the time so get something to keep it moiturized for at least a week. Then make sure you use a perm that is not harsh with lye. For the first time a lot of people use the childrens perms most with the same effect but is genterler. My friend just had her daughters hair permed and braid right after and all her broke off. Try the perms for children first. and follw directions. Do not repeart again before time stated or till hair really needs permed again due to if redo it to soon it will all break off again.
